The novel is a prequel to the comic Shade of Blood. It takes place about 26 years before the comic does. Ginto isn't emperor yet so don't be confused when they call him Prince okies? :3
The novel helps fill in some gaps and answer a few questions that you guys might have about the comic so far. It mainly focuses on Ginto, the novel tells you more about his character and some of the things that happened to him in his past.
If you guys just read the comic and not the novel that's fine, but the novel contains background information that isn't present in the comic (like how the war started).
